Jason Teh won his first BWF World Tour career title on Sunday 2 February 2025 at the Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters Super 300 tournament in the men’s singles event. He beat China’s Wang Zheng Xing in three gripping games: 21-18, 15-21, 21-19.
Jason said: “I’m very happy to win my first title! Honestly I was thinking about winning the title already at 18-18 in the third game which caused me to commit unforced errors as I was rushing. But luckily I was able to reset and get back on track. Coach Vega guided me throughout this whole tournament by my side in Thailand, and coach Kim Ji-hyun will analyse the matches for me, and give me suggestions through WhatsApp text messages daily.”
Sparring partner Vega Nirwanda, who was with Jason as his coach in the finals, said: “In the second game, Jason’s focus dropped a little, and before you know it, he was already trailing too far. His strategy was to regain his focus, and put up a big fight in the third game. I urged him to stay focused on every point and be ready to play drives. I’m certainly proud of him and glad to be a part of the process of him achieving his maiden title.”
National Singles Head Coach Kim Ji Hyun said: “I am over the moon that Jason has finally achieved a breakthrough winning his first title BWF World Tour title! He has been working so hard by himself over the past many months, and his efforts have finally paid off. He needs to remain focused on the next chapter of his journey, now aiming for lofty goals like winning in the Super 500, 750 and 1000 series. We will get there together.”
