The highly anticipated 17th edition of the JK Technology Inter-Club Masters League (ICML) has begun, continuing its legacy as one of Singapore’s premier badminton competitions, with JK Technology as the title sponsor, and a number of present SBA board members and former national players taking part in the league. The league brings together badminton enthusiasts from across the island, offering a competitive yet community-driven platform that promotes active aging, lifelong sports participation, and community engagement. The opening ceremony, followed by the first round of matches, took place on 27 February 2025 at the KFF Badminton Arena.
Since its inception in 2005, the ICML has been a cornerstone of Singapore’s local badminton scene. This team event, comprising seven ties of five Men’s Doubles and two Mixed Doubles encourages players aged above 40 to come together and celebrate their passion for the sport. What began as a simple competition has since evolved into a beloved tradition that attracts participation from many badminton parties across Singapore, allowing them the unique opportunity to compete against one another. This year’s edition promises to deliver thrilling displays of skill, sportsmanship, and camaraderie as seasoned players and newcomers alike vie for the championship title.
Since its inception, the ICML has attracted a number of prominent players, including ex-national athletes, club champions, and veterans such as Victor Sim and Foo Kon Fai, both of whom are the reigning senior world champions in badminton. Local legends Ronald Susilo and Wong Shoon Keat will also feature in this year’s event, playing for Darren Shuttlers and Team Avengers respectively. Susilo represented Singapore at the 2004 Athens Olympics, reaching the quarterfinals, and again at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Wong won Singapore’s first and only badminton gold in the men’s singles event at the 1983 Southeast Asian Games. Their involvement highlights the high level of competition and dedication that the ICML continues to inspire within the local community.
The competition will take place across three key venues: the iconic KFF Badminton Arena, the Singapore Swimming Club, and the newly built Fernvale Village. Located in the heart of Sengkang, Fernvale Village is a state-of-the-art badminton facility that serves as a sustainable hub for the sport. It features a world-class badminton hall, curated dining and retail options, and serves as a gathering space for all things related to health, wellness, and community. The venue is sponsored by JK Technology and is a response to the growing demand for badminton in Singapore, further strengthening the firm’s commitment to sports development and the sports industry in Singapore.
This year’s series will see a total 19 teams participating and a record number of more than 550 players comprising Singaporeans and Permanent Residents. The ICML will run throughout the year, culminating in a grand prize presentation and Gala Dinner in November 2025, where players, sponsors, and guests will gather to celebrate the achievements of the competition and the spirit of active aging.
